Momo Böhnke

I come from the stage and have recently completed an advanced training in film and television.

I am drawn to characters under tension – rushed, contradictory, not clearly located. From such states, a form of comedy often emerges that is not intentionally created, but arises from behaviour itself: from wrong timing, fractures, shifts. I am interested in situational comedy as much as psychological precision, especially where the two intersect.

I like working with opposites: closeness and distance, control and loss of control, seriousness and rupture. I am interested in precisely observed stories that achieve a lot with very little, and in characters who are taken seriously without being explained. I am especially fascinated by worlds in which the fantastical does not arise through effects, but through human behaviour.

In my acting, I look for inner coherence rather than realism in an external sense. I am interested in the moment when something shifts, tilts, or cannot immediately be explained. Even seemingly clear or exaggerated characters fascinate me when their contradictions are allowed to become visible – that is where tension arises for me.

I came to acting through an apprenticeship in tailoring, with the realisation that I preferred to wear the costumes myself. Since then, acting has been an ongoing process – a continuous exploration of myself and the world through each new role. To relax, I knit socks, listen to audiobooks, and draw strength from conversations with people close to me. I enjoy dancing (to any kind of music). I spent ten years training in ballroom and Latin dance, and now prefer to let my body respond freely to music. 

I like change - most recently a perm, then a shaved head, currently bleached hair – change is part of both my artistic and personal identity.
