About me

Andreas Lechner Andreas Lechner studied music at the Richard Strauss Conservatory in Munich, majoring in double bass, and plays several instruments. Between 1978 and 1990 he performed throughout Germany with his all-music cabaret group "Guglhupfa'" with Dieter Hildebrandt and Otto Grünmandl, among others.

He realised his first own film as a director in 1994: the semi-documentary "Hasenbergl". He also made the feature film "Hot Dogs" (1996), which landed him in the German Series at Cannes. "Butterflies of the Night" (1999), which he self-distributed, was his first feature film. The film had its premiere at the Hof Film Festival.

He has worked with directors in theatre and film such as Josef Bierbichler, Ruth Drexel, Rüdiger Hacker,Hans Steinbichler, Thomas Kronthaler, Sybille Tafel, Christiane Pohle, Uisenma Borchu and Franz Wittenbrink.  Through his encounter with the composer Hans Werner Henze, he received commissions for compositions and librettos for the Munich Biennale. From 2001 to 2006 he worked as an officially licensed auctioneer at a Munich auction house.

In 2009, Andreas Lechner was a fellow at the Villa Aurora artist residency in Pacific Palisades (Los Angeles).

In 2017 he took on a role in Josef Bierbichler's feature film "Zwei Herren im Anzug" (Two Gentlemen in Suits) and accompanied the filming in documentary form for Bavarian Television.

In 2019, his debut novel "Heimatgold" was published by Volk Verlag in Munich.
